Zebra GK420D (Direct Thermal) Label Printer Installations

- Power on the printer and Windows should automatically detect it and install the driver.
- To confirm if the driver was installed successfully, click the start menu and search for Device Manager. Expand the ‘Printers’ node and you should see the device ‘ZDesigner GK420d’ listed.

Manual Driver Installation (If Windows Update Does Not Install it Automatically)
- Connect the printer’s USB cable to a USB port on the customer’s computer.
- Download GK420D Driver
- Execute zd51166917-certified.exe’
- Click ‘Next’ on the first dialog.
- Accept the terms and conditions and click ‘Next’.
- Click ‘Next’.
- Click ‘Next'.
- Click ‘Next'.
- Click ‘Next'
- Tick ‘Run Zebra Utilities Now'
- Click ‘Finish’.
- A new dialog entitled ‘Pre Loaded Drivers’ will open. Click ‘Next’ when this appears.
- You will then need to specify which port your printer is connected to. Click ‘Next’ when selected.
- Click ‘Exit’
- Repeat steps 2 - 9.
- This time when the ‘PrInst’ dialog appears select the option ‘Install Printer’.
- On the next dialog scroll through the ‘Printers’ list and select ‘ZDesigner GK420d’.
- Click ‘Next’ to install the driver installation.
- When the ‘Printer Options’ prompt appears you should see the virtual port ‘USB001’ at the bottom of the list of ‘Available Ports’. This port will only appear if the printer is switched ON and connected to the PC. Select this port and click ‘Next’ to proceed with the installation.
- The ‘Additional Install Options’ dialogue will open. Make sure both options are unticked and click ‘Finish’.
- To confirm if the driver was installed successfully expand the ‘Printers’ node in Device Manager and you should see the device ‘ZDesigner GK420d’ listed.
- To open Device Manager hit the Windows + X keys, and select ‘Device Manager’ from the pop-up menu that appears.
