How to Use the HRT Scheme - The Basics
There are three key points to bear in mind for the HRT Scheme:
1. The HRT Scheme only applies to items dispensed under the GMS, DPS, GMS Repeat & Hospital Emergency schemes.
2. HRT items under these schemes are provided free of charge to the patient but are always claimable even if the patient (and their family) is under the DPS copayment threshold at the end of the month (and they don't contribute to the copayment).
3. HRT items will be placed on a separate Form Number from any other items dispensed in the same session.
- With these three points in mind, you simply need to dispense the relevant items to the patient as needed, and TouchStore's dispensary software will handle the rest.
How to Use the HRT Scheme - The Extra Bits
Alongside the above changes, there are a few more specific details to mention:
-
The PCRS has added two new 777 codes to their list of allowed codes for claiming purposes (77791 and 77792) - if you apply these GMS codes to a ULM product, it will flag the dispense as an HRT Scheme item and apply the HRT Scheme to that item.
-
As per the PCRS, HRT products that are considered to be Exempt Medicinal Products (EMPs) should be submitted under the DPS scheme where possible, using the newly added 777 codes.
- Where the patient does not have DPS eligibility, the EMP should be claimed under the Discretionary Hardship Arrangement via Local Health Offices.
-
Claim Defender has a new rule to notify a user when a 77791 or 77792 code is being dispensed on any scheme other than DPS or Hardship.
